oh-glasgow:

Part 2 of the Nicola Sturgeon interview on the Daily Show.

Jon Stewart: First of all, you have demolished Labour and Ed Miliband… are they angry at the SNP or are they more disappointed in Miliband?

Nicola Sturgeon: Well they’re disappointed in Miliband, but they’re expressing that by being angry at the SNP… and it’s easier for them to blame the SNP for fact they got demolished at the election than to actually face up to the reasons why they got demolished. We started acting more like people expect a Labour party to act like. We stood up against austerity…we said “you know what, we didn’t want to spend £100 billion on new trident nuclear missiles”… we’d rather do something radical and invest that on healthcare, education and giving kids the best start in life. When you go back ten or twenty years, these are things that Labour politicians used to say, but not any more. They tried to out right-wing the Conservatives and it hasn’t worked for them.

Jon Stewart: That’s the thing that struck me the most about this election. Austerity politics is very unpopular, and yet Cameron and the Tories won…

Nicola Sturgeon: That’s because Ed Miliband and Labour didn’t stand up and give an alternative, they offered more of the same… and people wanted an alternative to that.
