The Book I Read – Renata Adler ‘Speedboat’

Ok, last year I made the effort to try and read a whole bunch of stuff by ‘NOT White Male Authors’ and I read some good book but come the end of 2014 all I could remember apart from a few standout books was the handful of white guys I’d read. Foolish, I know. So I’m gonna blog about them under the tag ‘thebookiread’ from now on so I can keep track

Renata Adler’s ‘Speedboat’ is a bit like Evelyn Waugh’s Scoop crossed with The Loved One or Plath’s The Bell Jar in that, she’s a journalist, tooling around all detached and commentating all the way on America. I don’t know if she’s from New York, but she has this New York wise guy snark to everything she comes across and how she puts it altogether.

It’s entertaining. Would recommend.
