dr-archeville:

Could We Really Build Giant Robots?“ (from www.TechNewsDaily.com)

Short answer: no, because the Square-Cube Law (wikipedia, tv tropes), like gravity, is a harsh mistress.

(To quote Schlock Mercenary’s Howard Tayler, “every technological advance necessary to create a walking mech will be obviated by better uses of that advance. As my friend Dave put it so brilliantly several years ago, [and I paraphrase] "If your tech is so superior that you can get away with giant killer robots, the only reason to use them is for sheer intimidation. This means that what you should be building is giant killer robot clowns.””)

HOWEVER, advances made in fields like materials engineering and power generation could lead to stuff that’s just as cool.  Like Iron Man suits, and improved medical prostheses, and faster spacecraft, and off-world habitats!

(The G1 Transformers franchise has even bigger ‘bots.  Fortress Maximus should be about as big as Gipsy Danger; Metroplex and Trypticon would both be so big, Gipsy Danger would only come up to about their knees.)

You see the trick to defeating the Square Cube Law in this instance is that EVA’s aren’t actually robots but giant biological beings augmented with cybernetic systems that essentially run off of a mains cable so there’s still hope out there for all of us who wanted to pilot a giant robot against interstellar beings in our teens. (Although there is far less hope now that our teens are way behind us)
